A message from the doctor...
I became a physician because of my own health issues. Sadly like many physicians I drifted away from practicing the best wellness care of my own life. Two years ago my health began to decline as I began to gain weight I could not lose, developed irritable bowel syndrome(IBS), and developed many of the muscle and joint aches that I saw in my patients. My first battle was with IBS that initially responded to medications but I found was easily flared up by returning to a "normal diet". I discovered anti-inflammatory diets but found that some anti-inflammatory foods for me were more inflammatory than not(eg. beans and grains). I discovered the Paleo diet first through Loren Cordain's work and later through Robb Wolf's podcast and later his book. I found my personal answer for my gastrointestinal problems and more. I began the Paleo diet to lose the 20 pounds I had hit a wall with and attributed to aging. What I was amazed with was that not only did the Paleo help me lose weight faster than any "diet" I've attempted I noticed that my progressive joint and muscle pain began to reverse itself. Once I also improved my sleep and transitioned to a more cross-fit exercise routine I found myself 18 pounds lighter and stronger, healthier, and more fit than I have been in 10 plus years. The best discovery in the Paleo diet besides its benefits was that it was based in science and a theoretical base that made sense. I now incorporate nutrition and wellness education to any patient that is both open to it and a candidate.
