Background
Became interested in "alternative" diets 3+ years ago when I started offering the Cornerstone diet program. Learned a lot about nutrition and excess of carbs in a modern diet. Started offering Berkeley HeartLab testing to my patients soon after that and spent time learning more about lipids and diet's effects on them. Through my reading I discovered obesity, diabetes, and heart disease are all the same disease and early man had none of those, so became interested in more of a paleo diet, rather than just low carb. I am now a speaker for Berkeley HeartLab and teach other physicians how to interpret the results. I spend a significant amount of time with patients and other physicians teaching them how the proper diet can improve health and prevent disease. I follow a low carb/paleo diet myself and have significantly improved my own lipid results.
