Andrew Neville, N.D.

I am a naturopathic doctor who specializes in treating adrenal dysfunction at the Clymer Healing Center, which is the only practice in the US to focus on Adrenal Dysfunction since the 1960s. Our clinical experience with thousands of patients has demonstrated that adrenal dysfunction is the root of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, and that it also causes or significantly contributes to the majority of chronic illness affecting our society today.

Adrenal Dysfunction is the result of a chronically over-used stress response system which eventually becomes so dysfunctional that it makes us anxious and depressed for no apparent reason, throws off our sleep cycle, makes us wired and tired, beats up our digestive and immune systems, and affects our physical and mental health in a myriad of other ways. Diet is one of the top stressors we actually have control over, and I strongly recommend a primal diet to my patients, who have experienced enormous healing due to these dietary changes and individually calibrated adrenal support.

I specialize in Adrenal Dysfunction because I was afflicted by this same condition. It was a natural progression from studying with my mentor Dr. Poesnecker when I came came to Clymer, to healing myself, to helping thousands of patients understand and recover.

The paleo/primal diet is an easy progression for me since I have been a proponent of the Weston A. Price diet since studying it in medical school.

The practice and philosophy of eating food the way our ancestors ate simply goes deeper into and even beyond the work of Weston Price. Whereas Weston Price was able to travel to contemporary cultures that were untouched by the “displacing foods of modern commerce,” the ideas of the Primal/Paleolithic diet reach quite a bit further back into our ancestry. Since we can’t go back and study these people directly, we need to use anthropology and science to determine what they actually consumed. In the meantime, it benefits us all to avoid “frankenfoods,” GMOs, seed oils, and highly processed carbohydrates.

The reality is that the closer we can eat to how our ancestors ate, the healthier we will be today, tomorrow and for generations to come. A primal diet is a great start for the majority of people. I am one of those “patients” who is allergic to both gluten (grains) and casein (dairy) and have long adopted a Paleo/Weston Price diet in my personal life, with wonderful health benefits for my family as well as myself from this time-tested way of eating.
