Background
In November of 2011, Dr. DeSante graduated magna cum laude from Northwestern Health Sciences University with a Doctorate of Chiropractic (DC). While at Northwestern, she also began a certification program with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) in Prenatal and Pediatric Chiropractic care above and beyond what is taught at the basic DC level. Dr. DeSante is continuing this educational pursuit in an attempt to provide the best possible care to expectant mothers and children. She thoroughly enjoys working with pregnant women during this very exciting and transformational period in their lives. Dr. DeSante treasures and respects the amount of trust a parent places in her hands when requesting that she adjust his or her child.
Prior to starting chiropractic school, Dr. DeSante worked as Therapeutic Staff Support (TSS) for children with Autism spectrum disorders, mental retardation, traumatic brain injury and other developmental disabilities. She is comfortable and experienced in interacting with this population and appreciates dialogue with parents regarding the unique needs of their child. Dr. DeSante welcomes the opportunity to treat any patient interested in receiving chiropractic care.
In addition to providing chiropractic care, Dr. DeSante also has experience in yoga and Pilates instruction and understands the unique needs of yoga and Pilates enthusiasts. In October 2004, Dr. DeSante completed the 200 hour yoga teacher certification program at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Wellness in Lenox, Massachusetts. In July of 2008, she received training in Pre and Postnatal yoga instruction at 5 Elements Yoga Studio in Brampton, Ontario. She has taught yoga in both group class and private instruction formats in a variety of settings to all types of clients for eight years now. Dr. DeSante has also received training in STOTT Pilates instruction through an apprenticeship at a STOTT studio and several trainings in usage of the reformer, stability balls and various other Pilates pieces of equipment. Dr. DeSante currently teaches yoga classes at Northwestern Health Science University and Pilates at New Movement Pilates studio.
Dr. DeSante is passionate about eating real food and maximizing health through whole food nutrition. Her thought process involving food and diet is informed by the GAPS diet, Weston A. Price Foundation, Paleo diet, and experiential learning in the laboratory of her own life and body. Each person has his/her own unique dietary needs, however the foundation for optimal health is always built upon a diet consisting of real, whole foods, and engaging in generous amounts of physical activity and regular stress relieving practices. Dr. DeSante is happy to discuss elements of your wellness lifestyle with you.
In her spare time, Dr. DeSante enjoys being active outside in the natural world, cooking, reading and spending time with her husband, Paul, and dog, Emma.
