Paint Your Plate Nutrition

Marissa is a Registered Dietitian with special interests in Paleo/evolutionary nutrition, digestive wellness, food sensitivities/allergies, and blood sugar regulation.

Marissa works in a variety of nutrition settings in an effort to reach a wide audience and spread the simple, yet powerful notion that eating real, whole, nutrient dense foods is the foundation of health and wellness. She shares her time working as a hospital outpatient/community dietitian, providing individual nutrition counseling at an integrative medical practice, and nurturing a blossoming private practice, Paint Your Plate Nutrition. This allows Marissa freedom to consult with fitness facilities, like CrossFit Durango, and work with other healthcare practitioners, such as gastroenterologists, neuropsychologists and naturopathic doctors.

Specialties

Marissa enjoys educating clients to help them make the connection of how food choices affect their bodies. She believes that empowering clients with knowledge is vital in helping them resolve health concerns around some of the following issues:

Balancing blood sugar related to Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes or dysglycemia
Digestive upset, IBS/IBD, constipation, diarrhea, gas and bloating
Concerns about high or low cholesterol and high triglycerides
Elevating and maintaining energy levels throughout the day
Identifying and coping with food intolerances, sensitivities, and allergies (such as gluten, dairy, soy, etc.)
Nutrition therapy for specific autoimmune conditions, like celiac disease, thyroid conditions, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, eczema, psoriasis, etc.

In addition, Marissa assists clients in making the transition to a Paleo/Ancestral way of eating and lifestyle. While adopting a nutrient dense Paleo diet will alleviate many symptoms of ill health, some struggle with specific digestive, weight-related or autoimmune issues, in which case Marissa works closely with the individual to customize a plan.

Background

Marissa earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Fort Lewis College, a master’s of science degree in nutrition and dietetics from Bastyr University, a premiere institution for holistic and integrative nutrition, and is a Registered Dietitian.
